WE KEEP hearing from the Government about the mess the previous Government left the country in.

If only this was true. A report by city broker Tullett Prebon, based on the Government's own data, reports a fall in annual spending of barely one per cent since the coalition came to power.

  1. SPINNING A LINE: Letter writer Martin Walton says it is wrong for the coalition Government to blame economic troubles on Labour.

SPINNING A LINE: Letter writer Martin Walton says it is wrong for the coalition Government to blame economic troubles on Labour.

In fact, in 2011-2012, the total was still 3.4 per cent higher than in 2008-2009. That's the so-called wasteful Labour Government. Also, the coalition is now borrowing almost as much over five years as Labour did over 13.

The IMF expects our national debt to rise faster over the next two years than in any other major European country except Spain.

There are only so many times you can blame the previous government.

The real reason they are exaggerating the economy is so they can dismantle the welfare state. It's in their DNA.

“It's possible to make statistics read however you want them to.

Only a couple of weeks back Christine Lagarde was praising the Coalition for their approach to deficit reduction.

Labour have admitted that had they won the last election they would have cut £7 for every £8 that the Coalition are cutting.

During the election campaign Gordon Brown admitted there'd be cuts but wouldn't say where they'd be made. Now Ed Milliband and Ed Balls admit there need to be cuts but say that they can't be specific about them until they're in government. So in other words Labour had no sound economic plans whilst in government and they have none now.

Labour damn near bankrupted the country in 1976. Denis Healey famously said we had, 'One month to save the pound' and went cap in hand to the IMF. He borrowed £25billion, a staggering amount back then. If Labour had won the 2010 election we'd have been going back to the IMF any time now.

Will the Labour Party ever learn that money needs to be earned before it gets spent? Probably not in my lifetime.

"There are only so many times you can blame the previous government." Personally I think we should continue blaming them right up until we've cleaned up their mess.”

“oh And I was born in Stoke and lived there for many years until I managed to get the hell out because your great Liebour council is only interested in filling their own pockets , the only thing they managed to do was destroy a once thriving city that has now become a warehouse”

“Just the sort of Letter and comments I would expect from someone who only votes liebour , just as most other idiotic stokies who cannot think for themselves but have to vote the same way their parents and grandparents and great grandparents and so on and so on .”

“Wait until DLA gets replaced with P.I.P next year. The genuine have no need to worry is the cry but they are already worrying and having benefits taken away.
Bloody country will come to a full stop soon. And we are about to pick up the tab for that party for Londoners they've just had.”

“Fewer people working and paying taxes... more people unemployed and claiming benefits. Hardly rocket science is it?”
