A MAN who died after being savaged by two dogs at his Blackpool home had recently moved to the resort from Stoke-on-Trent.

Andrew Walker, aged 21, died on Friday night after suffering serious injuries as he tried to separate two large German Shepherd dogs fighting in the back yard at his home.

The dogs, which were owned by another man who lived at the same address, turned on him when he tried to intervene at around 8pm.

Mr Walker was bitten and suffered several puncture wounds to his upper body in the attack before falling and hitting his head.

Now a post-mortem examination is set to be carried out to find out exactly how Mr Walker died.

Mr Walker, who was originally from Stoke-on-Trent and still has relatives in the Potteries, had been living in Blackpool for a year.

Inspector Simon Atkinson, of Lancashire Police, said: "In the process of trying to separate the dogs both turned on him and launched a sustained attack, in which he received numerous puncture bite marks on his upper body."

Police said that when the dogs' owner came into the back yard he had managed to get the dogs under control and drag them away.

It is thought Mr Walker managed to get back inside the house before collapsing. The dogs' owner called an ambulance.

Insp Atkinson added: "During the course of the attack we believe he may have fallen over several times and possibly banged his head.

"The cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination is conducted.

"We cannot dismiss that he has died as a consequence of falling in this incident."

The dogs, aged three and 13 months, have now been destroyed at the direction of their owner.
