Unaffiliated councillor Paul Breeze, whose ward covers Birches Head and Central Forest Park, wants the council to ditch plans to move from Stoke to the proposed Central Business District in Hanley.
The motion calls for the council to suspend moves to borrow £40 million for the relocation and to call off the switch.

Councillor Breeze's motion, which has been backed by councillor Dave Conway calls for the rethink because of 'the continuing dire economic circumstances globally, nationally and, particularly devastatingly, locally in Stoke-on-Trent.'
Thousands have signed petitions against the move, with Stoke traders also fearing the move could kill business in the town.
The full city council meeting will be held on Thursday, January 24 at the civic centre from 5.30pm.

“FACT: The high street is diminishing...3 weeks into 2013 - Jessops/Comet/Blockbuster/HMV and more close to home britannia gone...STOKE COUNCIL SOLUTION: build a new council office & get a 40million+ bank loan. In this current climate...when they are cutting services? Agree or Disagree - make your voice heard on this Petition! If over 5000 people sign they have to listen!

“Quick online link to a petition to stop the move
http://tinyurl.com/c3dw4el
Will be around on the 'march on Stoke' with paper copies also.
It takes a mimute, and the numbers petitioning show to the councillers how the topic will effect how people will vote. The more numbers, the more notice they will pay.”

“What keeps comiong back to my mind everytime this £40 million move is mentioned -is the picture of thos poor confused old people who were being split up from each other, from the dedicated staff at their Care Home whom'd they come to love and trust as a family, in order to SAVE MONEY.
You don't get much more callous than that when 'juggling the finances' which leads to this kind of decision. What the hell's happening down there in the Council Chamber? They're a disgusting heartless bunch of people -with nice life styles. That's all they are these people.”

"Sadly they won't back down now, just out of pure ignorance.............." -Unquote.
Probably out of spite too. Nasty uncaring lot of outsiders -playing with the gullible Councillors like 'puppets on a string'.”

“Petitions may be legal but they go in the bin or are thrown out by this council, they are also not newsworthy as they are not a highly visible demonstration of people's feelings. If you, as people of this city, wish to make a point go on the march because that can inflict far more embarrassment and damage on this lot than any petition. And it is the fear of embarrassment, especially national, that will change the ways of this disgraceful administration.”

“won't make any difference, Pervez and co have probably already picked the new carpets and curtains. They don't give a monkeys about the people of Stoke, How many of them are Stokies born and bred? How many live in the City?”

“Letters of objection have legal status, whereas marches do not, and a petition counts legally as one letter of objection irrespective of the number of signatures.”

“Johnarc,
Better still join the march on stoke campaign. Show the councillors and officers that you have no confidence in them to administer this city for the benefit of its residents.

“move the Council into the closed shops in the Potteries Centre, that will not cost anyhting and if they move into the Disney Shop, it will fit right in with the fantasy world those people seem to live in !”
