TO SAY I'm disgusted at the 'trinket ban' in certain areas of Carmountside Crematorium is a gross understatement. Myself and my family have a number of relatives buried at Carmountside and feel totally violated and upset that the council has now come up with the idiotic idea of "sensitively" disposing of our property. Let's remember this is our family buried there, on our plot of land that we purchased from the council.

How many families cannot only afford to buy flowers weekly, but get to the cemetery weekly to replace them, as obviously that's what it will mean?

  1. MEMORIAL: The laying of 'trinkets' has been banned from parts of Carmountside Crematorium.

What happens if relatives have a large family and only two grave pots on the headstone, does that mean it will be first come, first served on who gets to leave their flowers as we can no longer leave them in vases?

At Christmas, does it mean we can longer place wreaths on, as they are not 'real flowers'?

I think the fat cats sat behind desks in the council offices who thought of this should at least have the decency of speaking to the bereaved families face to face in a local meeting and see what they have to say.

I hope that all of the families come together to make a stand on this because I, for one, will not let this matter lie.

“I went into the offices of the Crematorium when this badly written article was first published and would strongly recommend you speak to Carmountside before making your "stand"! The notice stated that no artificial flowers can be placed on the Garden of Remembrance and the surrounding Woodland area- Apparently this has always been the case. This story has caused a great deal of heartache and unnecessary hardship to the people of Stoke on Trent because it was not researched or verified! I have heard of people spending a lot of money unnecessarily on fresh flowers for their graves when there was absolutely no need! When I was in the reception there were quite a few elderly people and others who were upset and were all calmly told the full facts. Even the photograph appeared to be one which was taken in the summer and was put in there to mislead people into believing it was about graves. A headline story - inaccurate and misleading put there to sell newspapers and in the process bash the council! It is the Editor who should apologise to the grieving and perhaps print a retraction. Will not happen but we live in hope. So please, before demanding people make a stand, check it out - which is more than the reporter did!”
