ABUSE of the disabled car park at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire seems to know no bounds. Having arrived on Friday morning with my father-in-law we found all the bays occupied.

Fortunately, within a few minutes, someone arrived back at their car, walking unaided and with no problem.

After my father-in-law had received his treatment I was loading his wheelchair into the boot when a car pulled into one of the empty bays.

Out jumped a family of four and off they went without any shame, the children skipping along and the parents walking briskly.

I had a quick look on the dashboard and a blue badge was on display. Clearly, the blue badge holder was not in the car.

It must be so annoying for people with genuine disabilities having to queue for a space knowing several of the cars should not be there.

“One partial solution would be for a parking attendant on duty checking blue badges before anyone is allowed to park up in the disabled parking area. If the driver is the person disabled, then they should be allowed to park there, if not they should be re-directed to the drop-off point and the passenger gets out and the driver goes and finds a parking space on site.”
