THE Big Sing is an attempt to smash the 2005 Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous performance.

Th giant choir was made up of schoolchildren from all over the country singing You Gotta Be by Des'ree.

She performed in the last world record attempt in 2005 and had vowed she would never perform the track again because she was leaving pop music to pursue other projects.

However, she made an exception to sing one last time and return to the Big Sing.

Guitar band The Kixx, violin star In-Cha and classical singer Summer Watson all joined Des'ree on stage yesterday in London.

This was the third Big Sing to be held, previous concerts took place in 2002 and 2005. The last one was made up of singing superstars Joss Stone, Lemar and Ms Dynamite and it raised £143,000 for charity.

Yesterday's attempt is thought to have included one million children and Guinness adjudicators visited each school to verify the numbers. Confirmation will be announced in the new year.
