Decision over two takeaways
COUNCILLORS are expected to approve plans for two new takeaways in the same street at a meeting today.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council's development management committee was due to discuss two sets of plans to change both a former butcher's shop and a former furniture shop into takeaways in King Street, Fenton.
A petition signed by 238 people has been sent to the council opposing the proposal for 83-85 King Street.
Objectors say there are already enough takeaways in the area and any more could lead to anti-social behaviour.

“steven - the first comment or 2 seem to have been removed. also its arthurs m.o
arthur - tea was actually an asian concept, as in chinese asian, although teas of sorts were drunk in the middle east. the british involvement was mainly in making money from it
curry similarly was not a british concept, so no the soldiers did not invent it. the british did however make money from the spice trade
even the potato, the most staple of british diets, is not british.”

“Yeah, well most curry dishes as we know were invented by British soldiers in India when they were trying to disguise the flavour of the local meat. It's also true that the Indians didn't drink tea until the British turned up and shoed them hat it as all about. Remember, Pakistan and Kashmere were both part of India at that point.”

“Did you know that Mr Wajir, the recently suspended councillor (Tried to pressure a teacher to get a child of an "associate"into her school) is on the planning committee? Anyone else lost any trust in a corrupt council?”

“I must admit that in this time of austerity it is good to see that there are still those out there with cash available , wherever they have got it from, it doesn't matter, and I am not here to judge, to invest in a business which will have a nice front and it will certainly ensure good clean cash.”

“The biggest problem with rows of takeaways is that it gives the area an air of tattiness. It drags the area downmarket; both from the sort of clientele they attract and the litter those people leave behind them. King Street is a busy road that feeds traffic in and out of the city centre and down through Victoria Road. At lunchtimes, takeaways there have already led to illegal parking which makes the road almost impassable.
I suppose that is what councillors strive for in Stoke. At least..you'd think so, given past form.”
