David Blaine: What Is Magic? C4, 10pm

THOUGH he's best known for his high-profile stunts of endurance – going without food, being frozen in a block of ice, watching an omnibus of Emmerdale – David Blaine, pictured, is going back to basics doing the kind of magic that first made him famous – card tricks, pulling rabbits from hats. Taking his show on the road, Blaine makes his way across the United States visiting the places with the highest poverty and crime rates in the country. Just what you want when you're struggling to feed your kids, a knock on the door from a bloke with the life-changing ability to spend several days sitting on top of a pole. When he returns home to New York, we see Blaine performing for a host of A-List celebrity names including Orlando Bloom and Superbowl Champions New York Giants. But all this is merely the warm up to one of the most famous illusions in magic, The Bullet Catch, which sees a .22 calibre bullet being fired at point blank range directly at Blaine. The queue to fire it snakes right round the block. Bring back the Great Soprendo.
