Daughter's recovery an early Christmas gift
LITTLE FIGHTER: A youngster diagnosed with a rare form of cancer is
in remission after a successful operation to remove a
tumour.
Four-year-old Olivia Jennings-Cavanagh, pictured, was diagnosed with the muscle cancer rhabdomyosarcoma in February.
And as
The Sentinel
reported in July, she faced having life-saving surgery which could leave her paralysed.
But the operation to remove the tumour went to plan and her family received the good news the cancer was gone just before Christmas.
Olivia's mum Emma Jennings, also pictured, aged 27, of Eagle Street, Hanley, said: "It was the best news we could have had. A nice little present for us before Christmas. We were so happy."
Olivia's family
nominated her
for a Child of Courage award in The Sentinel's Our Heroes campaign for coping so well.
She had chemotherapy treatment at Birmingham Children's Hospital prior to the operation
.
Olivia will continue to have checks every three months for the time being and will also be closely monitored throughout
the next five years.
