Dates set for strike action
DISABLED workers are to stage two 24-hour strikes in protest against the planned closure of their factories.
The Sentinel reported yesterday that employees at Remploy, which has a plant at Trentham Lakes, had voted in favour of industrial action.
Now union Unite has announced that strikes will take place on July 19 and 26. Unite has members at 27 factories, including Trentham Lakes, which employs more than 100 people.
The Government announced in March that 36 out of 54 Remploy plants would shut within the year as part of a shake-up of its disability employment services.

Sally Kosky of Unite said: "This vote for strike action demonstrates our members' disgust at the way they have been treated by the Government's policies, which are designed to throw them on the dole queue at a very difficult economic time. Our members are desperate to work in an environment that takes account of their disability and where they can make a valued contribution to society and pay their way."
