PHIL 'The Power' Taylor is targeting a third decade of darting dominance.

Taylor won the world title for the 14th time thanks to Sunday's sensational 7-1 thrashing of five-time world champion Ray van Barneveld.

But he has no plans to stop there ... and says he will be trying to emulate John Lowe's achievement of winning the sport's biggest prize in three separate decades.

Taylor first conquered the world in 1990 and he has gone on to establish himself as the greatest player in history, while Lowe's three titles came in 1979, 1987 and 1993.

Taylor stated a couple of years ago that he would retire at the age of 50, but his recent success and fitness regime have led to him having a rethink.

He celebrates his 49th birthday in August and said: "You could be 75 years old and still win tournaments.

"As long as you are fit enough and your eyes don't let you down, why not ?

"If I can carry on doing the right things – practising hard and going down to the gym – there's no reason why I can't keep winning titles for many more years.

"I still want to win every tournament out there."

John MaGowan reached the second round at Alexandra Palace at the age of 67 with a 3-0 drubbing of Chris Mason, while 52-year-old Martin Adams is among the favourites to win the BDO Lakeside World Championship.

Taylor is clearly still ambitious and said: "I still want to improve. I'm always looking for ways to get that extra few per cent out of my game. I think some players practise just to keep their eye in, but I practise hard because I always want to improve."

Taylor showed his improvement with an average of 110.94 in his final win – the highest in the history of PDC events.

His thumping of Van Barneveld, which avenged his defeat in the 2007 final, also means 'The Power' has won the world title at its three venues.

He won the BDO event twice at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley, lifted the PDC trophy 11 times at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet and has now triumphed at the Alexandra Palace.

Taylor will be back at the Circus Tavern for the Players Championship Finals that start on January 30.

Then, on February 5, he starts his bid for a fifth successive Whyte & Mackay Premier League title in Liverpool.
