YOUNG performer Lydia Walklate has won her first role in a ballet production.

The 11-year-old, from the Westlands, is a member of The Elmhurst School Of Dance, Birmingham, and has now won a part in a production in Wolverhampton in September.

She will be appearing on stage for three nights with the English Youth Ballet when it presents Giselle.

Lydia's mum Samantha Walklate, aged 38, said: "Lydia had to audition and from about 120 girls they picked 40.

"She is delighted, because it is her first production and we are very proud."

Lydia is also part of the Steelworks Performing Arts Academy, Fenton.

Owner Pauline Steel, aged 58, from Madeley, said: "Lydia is a dedicated student and dancing is her passion.

"This is just the start of things for her."
