A SEWAGE treatment plant is working again after the River Trent cyanide pollution incident seriously damaged its processes.

The Sentinel reported yesterday that hazardous waste firm Red Industries, in Burslem, was being investigated over the cyanide leak which killed fish along the River Trent this week.

The company has been served with a suspension notice.

Rob Mabbott, general manager of sewage treatment at Severn Trent Water's Strongford works, near Barlaston, said: "Staff have worked around the clock to get the works up and running at our usual high standards and we are pleased that it is now back to business as usual."

Latest results from water samples have shown that the river is now back to normal, so people are no longer being advised to stay away.

Yesterday, Environment Agency officers found more than one thousand dead fish in a two mile stretch between Great Haywood and Wolseley Bridge.
