After the arrests of former Signal Radio DJ Ray Teret, Max Clifford and others over sex offence allegations one needs to examine celebrity culture to understand how it could have happened.

For innocent children and teenagers, to become a celebrity or to get the chance to operate in that world they would virtually do anything.

In other words, even though some (only some) knew full well what Savile and the others were like and sometimes pushed on by 'pushy mummies,' would compromise themselves or put themselves in dangerous situations just to rub shoulders with these so-called Gods.

This is exemplified by the star-struck teenagers on Top of the Pops and other popular shows of the day.

This culture is propagated of course by the established media as being very special where those involved in it get very, very rich.

Not forgetting of course that these so-called stars raise money for different charities from time to time.

Enter Max Clifford, usually the belligerent and blackguarding king of spin this publicist come PR Guru assumed the meek and mild 'old man' persona on Sky News this week after being grilled by the police for 12 hours.

Clifford aside, the critical spotlight must turn full-circle onto the general public and the society we aspire to.  As in why do some hold pop or showbiz idols in such a high esteem they can literally get away with anything?
