CREWE manager Steve Davis has been handed a triple boost for tomorrow's League One trip to Portsmouth (3pm) by the return of Steve Phillips, Byron Moore and Abdul Osman.

Keeper Phillips, an ever-present last season, is finally back in full flow and ready to challenge Alan Martin for the number one jersey following a knee problem.

Winger Moore offers competition in attack after suffering a bruised foot in the 1-0 defeat at MK Dons late last month.

Central midfielder Osman is battling with loanee Andy Bond for a place in the starting line-up after limping out of the 1-1 draw with Leyton Orient when he fell awkwardly after a challenge by ex-Port Vale man Anthony Griffith.

"They are all in contention for the weekend, thankfully," said Davis, who has needed to name a bench full of youngsters in recent weeks.

"It's nice to add more competition to the group. We want everyone to be kept on their toes.

"I don't want a situation where the team picks itself because of numbers rather than performances.

"It's also good to have more experience on the bench so we can have more options to turn to if we need to make changes during the game."

Mike West, aged 21, is also back in full training as he eyes his first appearance since his summer move from Ebbsfleet.

The forward injured a heel in pre-season and then suffered an ankle strain in an under-21s match against Leicester last month.

Davis said: "We have not seen enough of Mike.

"I watched him in pre-season when he showed some glimpses of what he can do. He looked a decent player.

"Hopefully he can have better luck with injuries, we can work with him and get him closer to the first team."

Young forward Ryan Colclough has had the screws removed from a plate fixed to the fractured jaw he suffered against MK Dons.

The 17-year-old, however, is not expected to be back in action until the new year.
