"I am more than pleased to do that. It has been too long really and I will just be glad to get it signed and move on."

Davis, pictured, has been on a three-month rolling deal since becoming manager a year ago, but has been in discussions about a longer deal since the start of this season.

Burnley were given permission to talk to Davis about their manager's job after Eddie Howe left Turf Moor for Bournemouth in October.

Davis was on a 10-man short-list and was interviewed before the Clarets appointed former Watford boss Sean Dyche.

Davis was also linked with Birmingham City last summer having done a remarkable job at Crewe.

He was appointed Alex boss on November 10 last year when they were 18th in League Two.

A year on, they are 14th in League One following promotion via the play-off final at Wembley in May.

Davis is also confident goalkeeper Alan Martin will also sign a new deal following a breakthrough in negotiations.

The 23-year-old was given a six-month deal in the summer but, after impressive displays, has been offered a contract until the summer of 2014.

“This is good news and I hope it's a long term
contract so that Steve can keep
focused on the job in hand, with more security”
