KEEPER Alan Martin has signed an extended contract to stay at Crewe until the end of next season.

The 23-year-old was handed a six-month deal in the summer with a message from manager Steve Davis to prove his desire and fitness.

However, he was then asked to stand in for the injured Steve Phillips – and impressed enough to keep his place even after player-coach Phillips returned to fitness.

Davis, aware that Martin was due to become a free agent later this month, has been anxious to tie down the former Scotland under-21s cap.

And Martin put pen to paper yesterday as forward Lauri Dalla Valle extended his loan spell at Gresty Road until January 8.

Goal poacher Dalla Valle has scored four in seven games in his first month with the Railwaymen from Premier League Fulham.

The Alex have risen from 18th to 12th in League One during his time at the club, but he missed Saturday's 3-1 win at Preston due to a foot injury.

The 21-year-old should be fit for the home game against Bury this Saturday and will be available for another five league games after that.

"I was delighted Crewe wanted to keep me," he said. "It has been brilliant to play games and score goals."
