Crewe Alexandra: Davis ready to spread the love in free week
STEVE Davis says he will put a comforting arm around a few of his jaded players as Crewe enjoy a rare break in a hectic fixture schedule.
The Alex have had mid-week games every week since the start of February - and will again until the end of April after their trip to Colchester United on Saturday.
Manager Davis is happy to take a deep breath before the run-in and work with his players on the training ground following back-to-back defeats to League One's bottom two sides, Hartlepool and Portsmouth.
He said: "This little break couldn't have come at a better time. They are a little bit weary mentally and physically after a lot of hard games.
"It has started to catch up with one or two and there a few annoying niggling injuries which aren't bad enough to keep players out of matches.
"One or two need a rest and an arm around them. There will be a lot of love around the place, that's for sure. I'll probably stick a bit of Barry White on and we'll spread a little love."
Loan midfielder Brad Inman (ankle) is expected to be out for another week while defender Jon Guthrie has a hernia operation today which will keep him out of action for the rest of the season.
The rest of the squad is being put through their paces at Reaseheath, including trialist striker Nathan Ellington.
Davis said: "I've got to look at their body language and the impact the last two games has had. They are a bit stunned by those two games when they haven't done as well as they can or as well as they'd like to have done.
"We are all disappointed. It hurts us as much as it hurts the fans and we feel the need to put it right as quickly as we possibly can.
"It's good to have a full week to look at things and fill the lads with confidence and belief again. They had a good session yesterday and looked fine."
