Ashley Westwood quits Crewe Alexandra for Aston Villa
CREWE boss Steve Davis reluctantly accepted his club's place in football's pecking order last night as Premier League Aston Villa swooped for Ashley Westwood.
Davis had been hoping to keep hold of his 22-year-old skipper, but conceded it was tough to turn down a Premier League club.

He said: "The final day of the transfer window is always ridiculous and you can't be sure of what's going to happen until the very last minute.
"It's always disappointing and frustrating when you lose good players because you've got to start again, but that's the way it is here at Crewe. We have to sell to survive."

Westwood has joined Villa on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
He said: "I'm really looking forward to the challenge.
"This is a fantastic football club, a massive club and I can't wait to get started.
"It feels a bit surreal right now, but I'll get out training with the lads tomorrow and take it in my stride."
Westwood, a product of the Crewe Academy, is the seventh signing of the summer by new Villa boss Paul Lambert.
He said: "Ashley's a terrific prospect for this club, a real talent. He's had a good grounding at Crewe and will do fine here."
