CREWE Alex boss Dario Gradi has had talks with leading scorer Calvin Zola after hauling him off during last Saturday's 1-1 draw with Torquay.

Zola made his long-awaited return from a hamstring injury when substituting Byron Moore during the first half at Plainmoor.

But Gradi later hauled him off again, Luke Murphy coming on in his place to allow Clayton Donaldson to be moved in from the right wing to play alongside Shaun Miller.

"I don't like substituting the substitute," admitted Gradi, who was vindicated when Donaldson scored Crewe's equaliser at Torquay.

"But Calvin was good, considering he'd been taken off for so long.

"I've spoken to him to apologise in a way, as I felt for him, but he could see that him coming off actually changed the game."

"The supporters were chanting 'you don't know what you're doing', but I had to do what I thought was right and not what they want."

ALEX fans are to get another chance to enjoy the posh seats in the Alexandra Stadium for this weekend's visit of League Two high-fliers Notts County.

Crewe's "director for the day" offer entitles fans to a seat in the Gresty Road directors' box.

A half-time bap, cake and coffee are thrown into the package which costs £35.

To book, call (01270) 213014.

CREWE'S second string recorded a fine 3-1 victory at Derby County yesterday.

Despite trailing 1-0 at the break, Danny Shelley, Danny Gardner and Ajay Leitch-Smith scored to give Crewe their first win in four games.
