Crewe Alex: Davis salutes Crewe heroes following epic success
STEVE Davis praised the unity of his battlers as Crewe stunned Coventry in their Johnstone's Paint Trophy northern area final first leg last night.
The Alex married a brave backs-to-the-wall defensive display with some superb counter attacking to come away with a 3-0 win in front of 31,054 fans.
Two second-half goals from Brad Inman and a late third from Ajay Leitch-Smith have put the Railwaymen in command of the tie, but Davis was quick to acknowledge the efforts at the other end, too.
He said: "The bit we saw on the night was hopefully the bit you don't normally associate Crewe with; grit and determination. It's what we had to show in front of a partisan crowd."

Davis insisted he would now fully concentrate on League One matters before the second leg at Gresty Road on February 20, although he admitted it would be a dream to walk out at Wembley again, where Crewe won League Two promotion in May last year.
He said: "It would be nice, I'm not going to talk about that from now until the second leg, but we haven't won a cup competition in the history of the club, so for us to achieve something like that would be fantastic."
