Crewe Alexandra: Steve Davis fears the worst over Ajay Leitch-Smith injury
CREWE are waiting to learn the extent of the ankle injury which forced striker Ajay Leitch-Smith out of Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Portsmouth.
The 22-year-old was caught by Pompey midfielder Brian Howard during the first half at Fratton Park.
He left the ground on crutches, but Alex medical staff have been unable to fully assess the injury because of bruising around the joint.
However, manager Steve Davis fears his four-goal frontman has suffered ligament damage, which could sideline him for several weeks.

"Howard went through Ajay to get the ball and was deservedly booked for the tackle," he said.
"But Ajay came off worse, and we fear has suffered ankle ligament damage and are preparing for him to be out for a while.
"We'll have to wait and see how severe the injury is, but it doesn't look good.
"That wasn't the only incident. They had six players booked and we felt one or two of their players could and should have been sent off."
Byron Moore, who made his comeback from a bruised foot as Leitch-Smith's replacement at Fratton Park, could now be set for a starting role when Crewe go to Walsall this weekend.
