MAX Clayton has won a call-up to the England under-19s squad alongside his former Crewe team-mate Nick Powell.

The 18-year-old has been named in Noel Blake's 18-strong group to take on Turkey at Telford on Thursday, March 21 (7.30pm).

However, the match falls in the middle of an increasingly hectic schedule for his club side.

It is England's final warm-up game before they head to Belgium in May for Euro finals qualifying matches against Scotland, Belgium and Georgia. The finals themselves will be held in Lithuania this summer.

Clayton, who featured for the under-19s against Germany in September, is the only outfield player selected from a club playing below Championship level.

He has made 33 appearances for the Alex this season, scoring six goals, and impressed as he reclaimed his place up front for a 2-1 League One win at Colchester United last weekend.

The England match comes between Crewe's rearranged home match against MK Dons next Tuesday and a trip to Crawley Town a week on Saturday.

Crawley may try to get that match moved back two days if defenders Muzzy Dumbuya and Joe Walsh receive international call-ups for Sierra Leone and Wales under-21s respectively.

Crewe already have a hectic run-in, with 12 games to play before the regular season ends on Saturday, April 27.

Their plans were not helped by the postponement of last night's League One clash with title-chasers Sheffield United.

Referee Peter Roberts deemed the frozen Gresty Road pitch unsafe during a noon inspection.

The game against Sheffield has now been rearranged for Tuesday, April 23.

A further pitch inspection will be held today ahead of Crewe's under-21s game against Nottingham Forest (7pm).

It is hoped rising temperatures will ensure Crewe's home encounter with MK Dons on Saturday will go ahead as planned.

Manager Steve Davis said: "We've got a hectic schedule with all the games that have been called off."
