Council cash call is pure hypocrisy
HOW hypocritical of the city council to ask shopkeepers to pay for the Christmas light because it is 'cash-strapped'.
If it has no funds how does it intend to repay the £40 million it intends to borrow to to build a state of the art new council building?
We all know this amount will spiral past £50 million because every project started by this council has overrun by months and even years.
Look at Middleport, for example. Hard-working respectable people were forced out of their homes and scattered to the four corners of Stoke-on-Trent – but what of their homes?

Some still standand are rat-infested thanks to rubbish dumped by fly-tippers.
How much money has been wasted by re-painting 3ft-long double yellow lines in Newport Lane?
Millions have been wasted on idiotic schemes such as the Ceramica Centre in Burslem and the Cultural Quarter and yet the council wants shopkeepers to pay out even more money.
Forget about paying architects hundreds of thousands of pounds, for luxurious new offices. Get your priorities right.
