CONGLETON MP Lady Ann Winterton claimed more than £6,700 for cleaning services over the last four years.

The politician claimed £90 a month for her London home to be cleaned and a further £50 each month for her office.

It is believed no other local MPs claimed for the cleaning of their work base.

Lady Winterton, pictured, and husband Nick, MP for Macclesfield, have already announced they will step down due to the pressure of living in public life.

The figures emerged yesterday as expenses of all MPs were officially published for the first time.

A £67 towel rail, two pillows priced £85 and £380 of bathroom accessories were among other items detailed in claims for the last four years.

She also claimed £900 a month rent for her second home.

Overall, she has claimed £61,390 on her second home and £56,257 on office costs over the four-year period.

Councillor Roland Domleo, former leader of Congleton Borough Council, and Cheshire East Council portfolio holder for adult services, told The Sentinel, he was still 'disgusted' about the revelation the Wintertons were claiming rent when they had paid off their mortgage.

He said: "That was just totally and utterly immoral.

"They were claiming rent from taxpayers on a house they already own and I think that is disgusting.

" There's not much else I can say, but I only pay £5 for two pillows."

David Bryant, the prospective parliamentary Labour candidate for Congleton, has called on David Cameron to ensure some of the expenses claimed by Lady Winterton are paid back.

He said: "Although at the time the Wintertons weren't found to be in breach of the rules when they claimed rent on a flat when they had already paid off their mortgage, there is a clear breach of the moral obligation not to abuse the system.

"The money was used as a clear addition to their salary which is unacceptable. Just because they are now retiring it doesn't mean they shouldn't repay some of the money."

Lady Winterton declined to comment.
