PLANS for Hanley include moving or closing most of the city centre's bus stops.

New stops will be provided for most services, but some buses will only call at the new bus station in John Street.

Work on the station site has already started, with changes being made to Bethesda Street and Bagnall Street.

The second phase of work on the station needs to be completed by November, ready for the bus routes to be diverted when the new station opens.

Most of the other changes cannot take place until buses move to the new station.

A third phase of works will be carried out after the opening when buses move out of Town Road.

Two objections were received to the bus route proposals, from a councillor and a resident of Lower Bethesda Street, who was objecting to buses using the road at any time, due to noise and fears over damage to his property.

However, the council said 80 per cent of passengers already use Hinde Street, and only 20 per cent use Lower Bethesda Street.
