Detective Inspector Glyn Pattinson, who led the inquiry by Staffordshire Police’s Major Investigation Department, said: “I welcome today’s conviction.
“This was a vicious, unprovoked attack on a defenceless woman who sadly lost her life.
“Our thoughts are with Ms Cuporiova’s family at this very difficult time.”
In a statement released after the trial, the family of Ms Cuporiova said: “Following today’s verdict we would like to say that we continue to grieve following the tragic death of our mother.
“The court case has been extremely stressful for the family.
“We respect the verdict of the jury and now wish to be left to grieve privately.”
Cupori was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at the same court at a later date.
