WHAT happened to the promises made by the Labour council at Stoke-on-Trent to make this city 'A Great Place to Live and Work, Bring in and Support Business?'

The Labour group have been back in full control for two-and-a-half years and they seem to be lurching from one crisis to another with no hand on the rudder.

The latest debacle is the Potteries Shopping Centre's plans to duplicate what is intended to go into the City Sentral development and the council's refusal to sell them the required land.

Now planning permission is given for a site at Etruria Valley that could duplicate what is intended for the new Central Business District.

There is a new bus station that does not have the capacity of the old one, although the intention is to increase the footfall and public transport usage into the city centre.

I would agree that we are desperately in need of a 21st century city centre and a new bus station and the associated chain of business that would follow.

However, if you are entering into these overdue, large scale projects, protection needs to be put in place with a coherent and joined up regeneration, planning and highways system.

The present state of haphazard planning and lack of joined up strategy could jeopardise the whole city plan and risks a greater cost than just money. We could end up having lots of half-built half-empty developments that compete with one another for business.

Is this the Labour-led council's idea of a plan that would entice business leaders to set up in Stoke-on-Trent?

It will more likely drive them away as well as losing some of the established business we already have.

Please get a signed-up well-supported plan and stick to it.

These decisions decide whether our city sinks or swims. The guy holding the rudder on the Titanic was from Hanley.

I hope this will not be a case of history repeating itself.

“It's so easy to see clean through this lot Ian.
They are in a corner and well painted in.
It's usual name is spin but I prefer to call it no backbone with no imagination or clear thinking.
No independence of thought and mind as my former MP often called it.

It's what the City is lacking at the moment.d it is noticeable.”

“Just seems common Labour trait of saying one thing to public but doing the other, see Cllr Cliley and Cllr Walker sudden rethink on community centres.

So what changed you view on CSC investing and expanding in Hanley?

Me if I wanted Investment to move Hanley forward Id back company with net worth of £1,048,100,000 and not the company with worth £-15,000,000.”

“When it comes to shopping and CSC, yes, I have looked at things and changed my stance. When I comes to the right thing and offering what people need to live there life in comfort, and remember, my roots are in care and nursing, I'm not now and never will sell people short. I also have a background in retail and I'll tell you CSC have not delivered to this city, and every one know that.”

"Stokeace, this seems to be privet investment being made. Hopefully it may have a knock on effect to other privet investment in other parts of the city. It's a big city and could do with someting on the lines of this offered in other parts of it. The area around the car parks of the shopping centre is a disgrace to this city, this will vastly improve the city centre and can only be encouraged. The main thing is a city centre cinema, witch is something we have not had in years, and I think will be more then welcome,"

Lets get hanley yanked into the 21st century orther then sitting in the 1980s world we have now. Every one, look at the CGI, and if anyone don't want something like that in the city centrer, they need mantel help."

    by warren46
"In fact the area to that side of the Shopping centre is a damned disgrace, give them the thumbs up to do what ever they want. The Place building holds its memories but looks like it going to fall down of its own accord anytime now. Let them go for it, the faster the better."

    by warren46
"Now that sounds good, the loss of parking space means that the focus must be put on public transport to get people there, but with forward thinking that can be done. The car park they are talking is a dump anyway, they just have to keep in mind there is the Shopmobilaty service that needs some space. Do this and its just what the area needs. Game on, at last."

"May I suggest that CSC in fact ensure that the Potteries Shopping Center is ran better before they think about expanding. The pullling of the food area I. The center was a dreadful move and he center a never fully recovered from that. There are to many empty units and stores selling tat to. I take it that the areas needed are at the moment car park, and most of the idiots hear constantly say there is nowhere to park and the removal of council ran parking, so why should any more parking be lost.”

“What is former Councillor Ward of the City Independents on?

The Labour Group has been in sole power since May 2011 - hardly two and a half years is it?

The hypocrisy of this letter infuriates me.

Mr Ward was the cabinet member for regeneration in the last all party coalition, previous to that he was the deputy leader of the city council in a 3way coalition with the Tories and the Lib Dums.

Mr Ward was the cabinet member who signed off on a bus station that was not big enough and he has the audacity to mention this in his letter as if this is a new thing. It happened on this former used car salesman's watch!

And let us scrutinise what Ward and the City Independents have done sine they blazed onto the Potteries Political Scene in the early 00's......

... That would be nothing then....”

“If you are suggesting that the City is being forwarded into a lean, mean fighting machine ready to take on Manchester and Birmingham by shutting a community centre and building a half bus station, then you must accept that the residents of this City are both thick and stupid.

Watching this Labour Council move progress in this City is like watching a slow motion car crash with no seat belts.

Their whole plan comes togethe with City Sentral but we all now know that the whole project of new superstore development is done in an underhand way that falls totally apart if a a new restaurant opens up on the other side of Town.

Personally, I'd call the police in but I'll leave that up to Joy Garner and her conscience.”

“So who do you believe was respobsible? Dates and reports. Or you just assuming.

As for what you said in past, bears no relevance to what you say and do for labour. What did you say about potteries expansion last year? Bring it on. It cant happen soon enough. Just what city needs. Now one year on labour preventing its expansion and your attackin CSC for poor management”
