CLIFF HANGER: Children got their hands dirty as they learned about the city's pottery heritage with a painting workshop.

Pupils from Smallwood Manor Preparatory School, in Uttoxeter, travelled to Gladstone Pottery Museum, in Longton, to take part in an art deco class. The youngsters, including 10-year-old Jack Hughes, right, learned to paint a tile in the style of one of the Potteries' world-renowned designers, Clarice Cliff.

The workshop was part of the pupils' local history and industry heritage lessons.

Jenny Gray, visitor services assistant at the museum, said: "Children are always very interested and love to get hands on, which is the best way to learn. It is very messy but very enjoyable and educational."
