T WO lucky primary school pupils beat hundreds of other competitors to win an Olympic challenge to design a Games-inspired logo to go on the roofs of three MINIs – one red, one white and one blue.

Louis Burgess, aged 11, a pupil at Springhead Primary School, and Tiara Goonasinghe, six, of Stoke Minster Primary, won the competition organised by the Knights BMW and MINI dealership.

The pupils were presented with their prizes at a special event last weekend which includes a visit to their schools by Staffordshire Olympian Alison Williamson. She will be demonstrating her archery skills and showing the Bronze medal she won at the 2004 Olympics at Athens.

And because BMW is an official sponsor of the London games, there was also an Olympic torch for people to hold and have their photographs taken with.

Ben Elliott, customer relationship manager at Knights, says: "More than 500 people attended our event, and customers got the chance to hold an Olympic Torch and get their photograph taken with it – a once in a lifetime opportunity.

"They made a great family memento as we get closer to the Games.

"On the same day we also unveiled the winning designs which had been placed on London 2012 Edition MINIs.

"The winners, Louis and Tiara, received a copy of their design, a scale model MINI with their design printed on the roof, and they also won a prize for their school which was a visit by Olympic archer Alison Williamson to demonstrate her archery skills.

"There was a Q & A session with the pupils, and they also got to see and hold her 2004 Athens Olympic Bronze medal. The children were very excited by her skills and she also presented a signed Team GB shirt to the schools.

"We received more than 300 entries and the standard was extremely high so we were delighted with the response from the schools and pupils.

"As a community-focused business, we feel this competition has strengthened our relationship with the local community which is really important to us.

"It's great to hear we have inspired the children with this competition and brought London 2012 to life, and that they are looking forward to watching the Games and following Alison's progress.''
