NEW ALBUM: John Barrowman.
The past week has been very busy with a visit firstly from John Barrowman.
About to storm America, John talked to me about his new role in Channel 4's Desperate Housewives and his new self-titled album John Barrowman.
This is unashamedly a theatrical album, but as John told me, one that tells a story and has many memories for him. He recalls his mum singing You'll Never Walk Alone to him as a child. He's also covered the Robert Preston classic I Won't Send Roses from the beautiful Jerry Herman inspired Mack & Mabel.
The role of Mack Sennett is one John would love to play and just like the character in the musical, he admits he's not the most romantic of partners.
The album is a great musical theatre album and I'm sure it will do well with the fans. Also this week we've had a visit from The Soldiers, ahead of their UK tour.
Sergeant Major Gary Chilton, Sergeant Richie Maddocks and Lance Corporal Ryan Idzi popped by to promote their tour and look back on their debut album – which has now gone double platinum.
And £100,000 has already been raised for the Army Benevolent Fund, Help For Heroes and Royal British Legion, with more donations to come from the tour and sales of the album.
In fact a recent front cover for one of the Sunday papers has just added a further £90,000.
The Soldiers made history by becoming the first group of serving British soldiers to have a hit album. Since being approached in 2009 to record a mix of original material and classic covers, The Soldiers signed to a major label on the strength of first single Coming Home, squeezing in studio sessions between their respective duties at home and abroad. The album is packed with songs of comradeship and emotion which will affect you whether you are in the services or not.
From haunting melodies like Eric Clapton's Tears In Heaven through to The Hollies He Ain't Heavy, this is an inspirational album. The guys are about to embark on a UK tour followed by going back into the studio to set to work on a follow-up album.
That's it for this week's albums, remember you can hear more great guests on my show on 1170am Signal 2 weekdays from 10am.
Next week Signal 1's Simon Morykin will bring you up-to-date with the latest singles being released.
