Charity hopes to cash in on soul revival
A COUNCILLOR is hoping that the city's re-emerging passion for Northern Soul will provide a boost for charity.
Hundreds of people from across the region have been involved in the filming of period music movie Souled Out at Stoke's King's Hall.
Councillor Randy Conteh said he had been surprised at the recent breakdown in communication – as described in Thursday's Sentinel – which led to legendary local DJ Keith Minshull being denied entry to the shoot.
Northern Soul fan Mr Conteh said he had been contacted by producer Natasha Carlish, who pledged support for the upcoming Charity Soul Revival.
He added: "Due to the publicity generated by Souled Out, the local passion for the old soul music and the appetite for a great night out, we are expecting about 1,000 people to attend the event and although the tickets are selling fast, limited numbers can pay on the door."
The evening, at the King's Hall from 8pm on Saturday, September 6, will raise funds for the Ben Howard Appeal and the People To Lourdes Trust.
Although Mr Minshull is unable to appear due to other commitments, other former Torch and Wigan DJs including Dave Evison and Johnny Beggs will be playing.
Tickets, priced at £7, are available from sponsor Century 21 estate agent, Church Street, Stoke, or by calling Mr Conteh on 01782 256869 or Carol Howard on 07811 399 625.
