Cancelled operations at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire breach targets

MORE than 800 patients have had their hospital operations cancelled at the last minute in just 10 months.

Latest figures show 828 patients had their surgery shelved at the last minute at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire between April and the end of January, despite rising numbers of cases going under the knife.

That represents 1.55 per cent of all scheduled operations at the Hartshill complex over the 10 months.

But the proportion of cancelled operations breaches Whitehall guidelines – with the Department of Health requiring a maximum of just 0.8 per cent.
