CCTV shows moment cycling arsonist set fire to himself (VIDEO)
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has released CCTV footage of an arson attack at a Congleton pub.
The video, shot on December 16, shows a man cycling up to the front door of The Club on Chapel Street, setting light to the door and himself before fleeing the scene.

Colin Heyes, the Service's Arson Reduction Manager, said: "This clearly shows how dangerous this sort of reckless behaviour can be it was fortunate that there was nobody in the property at the time of the fire. The person in the footage ended up going to prison for this crime. Arson costs the taxpayers thousands and more importantly it costs people their lives. I would urge anyone who sees someone involved in this sort of crime to report it."
Anyone with information regarding anti-social activity, such as arson, should report it to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

“arson is classed as anti-social activity what thats not true is it ! so police are looking for a bold guy riding a kids bike white tee shirt tracksuit bottons on at 3.50am and riding away from the seen on fire cant be that hard to find in congleton im sure ! unless he was last seen head north on the M6 of course !”

“Why dont police treat arson serious . To me its the same as attemted murder , they know what the outcome could be especially houses . I had the same trouble local to us and I managed to put the fire out at the neighbours house containing one adult and 4 children.
When the police came to interview me after many hours I said that "arson should be treated as attemted murder especially if the arsonist knows theres people in the house " . But they just said thats a bit extreme. I give up with this sad old world . People just don't care anymore about other peoples lives . Property can always be replaced.
A hundred or so years ago just attempting to set fire to a property and if they were caught the dangled . Bring those times back and hang this scum .”
