SINGER-SONG-WRITER Glyn Evans is re-releasing a football

song which he claims is better than Stoke City anthem

Delilah.

Glyn, of Clover Road, Wolstanton, wrote the song Britannia

Stadium – The Place I Long To Be in 1997 to mark the Potters'

move from the Victoria Ground to their current home.

The 55-year-old performer says the song was a big hit when

it was first released, with some supporters preferring it to

Tom Jones's Delilah.

Now Glyn is releasing the song again as a charity

record.

Glyn said: "When the song was first released, the feedback

was incredible.

"People would stop me and ask me to sing it or I would hear

people humming the song. It was a very catchy tune.

"I think the song has a lot more to do with the club and the

city than Delilah does."

Glyn is working his way around pubs and clubs in

Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle and is giving away copies of the

song to landlords.

The idea is that if punters like the song, they will be able

to buy their own copy for £2, with £1 going to the pub or

club's favourite charity.

A lifelong Stoke City supporter, Glyn has also penned the

Phil Taylor Blues for North Staffordshire's world-renowned

darts player, which received airplay on Sky television.

And Glyn believes the re-release of his song could spur the

Potters on to a mid-table finish in their first season in the

Premier League.

He said: "I think Stoke will surprise a few people.

"I've got £5 on Stoke to win the league at 5,000/1.

"It might sound crazy but I play the Lottery every week and

that has even longer odds.

"If the fans like the song that will be great, but the main

aim is to raise funds for charities."
