BUSINESSES and politicians have met to back council plans to create 30,000 new jobs across North Staffordshire over the next 10 years.

Staffordshire County Council and Stoke-on-Trent City Council will next week submit a bid for a 'City Deal' from the Government – a move which could bring in hundreds of millions of pounds of public cash.

Wednesday night's meeting at Keele Hall saw the heads of the city and county's top employers endorse the proposals, signing a charter to demonstrate their support.

Philip Atkins, Leader of Staffordshire County Council, said: "I'm delighted that so many of our major businesses are on board."
