STABLE: A man who fell from a bridge was last night in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

The man was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire on Monday afternoon after suffering life-threatening injuries. He is believed to have fallen from the bridge at the Alsager/Audley junction of the A500 just after 4pm.

Police shut the road in both directions for three hours following the incident while they gathered evidence, inset.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information about it to contact Sergeant Mark Hale on 0300 123 4455 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
