A BREWERY has defended its beer after it was banned from a Parliamentary bar because its pump plate featured a half-naked lady.

Fay Slater, of Stafford-based Slater's Ales, said the company had received "fantastic support" since its brew Top Totty hit the headlines last week.

She said: "We're proud of the beers we produce and stand by our Top Totty pump clip."

Stafford MP Jeremy Lefroy had organised for the beer to be sold at Westminster watering hole Strangers' Bar and said at the time it was a 'great opportunity to showcase a fantastic award-winning beer'.

It was removed after Shadow equalities minister Kate Green had claimed she was 'disturbed' by the label.

Members of Women in Rural Enterprise (WiRE) have also criticised the decision to ban Top Totty.

Lynn Oldfield, a host of Staffordshire WiRE, is now stocking brew at the Tollgate Hotel, Blurton, which she runs with husband Adrian.

Mrs Oldfield, of Newcastle, said: "As the meeting venue of WiRE and knowing Fay I thought it was an ideal opportunity to show how well local businesswomen support each other after the national media furore last week."

“Yes, I think that Ms Green must indeed be 'Disturbed' if she took offence at a beer pump clip.
    Well worth the £55,000 MP's salary !”
