ROSS Irving is the new leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council after an election today.

The Conservation and Independent Alliance Group leader defeated in Brian Ward, leader of the City Independents, in the contest at the Civic Centre in Stoke.

Both contestents saw off competition from Labour's Mike Barnes, and Alby Walker from the BNP.

The BNP walked out after their candidate was rejected.

“EL, you say that Andys comment is very childish. A bit like the BNPs behaviour then?”

“makes sense for the local Labour party to back a conservative candidate who has lost all respect from the residents of his own ward. If he fails then Labour will reap the benefits and even if he does not make a complete mess of the job he is certain to loose his council seat the next time he stands in the Trentham area.
As an aside if the BNP councilors only response is to walk out if they don't get their own way they can have only themselves to blame if they are excluded from all council decision making.
For Mr Irving to have any credibility he must ensure that councilor Ward is given a position in his cabinet and that he does not fill it with his old EMB cronies.”

“Another well aimed shot in the foot from our illustrious councillors - even our dimmest councillors must realise that Irving is a 'dead man walking' who is going to be booted out on his ear at the earliest possible opportunity - whether he dares to stand in Trentham again or not !

What kind of stability will this appointment create ? how will this enable the Council to better connect with its voters ? - well done chaps, you've outdone yourselves again !”

“Did counciler Antony Simmons not atend the meeting then, seen in Tesco Longton Extra at 14.30 with some chease, and thats the 100% gospel truth. Next time Mr. Simmons, try takeing you I.D. card off, that would not work though, lets just say you are distintive looking anyway. As for the new leader, another lame duck, just wate untill Trenthams finished with him. Good luck Rossie old man, I think you are going to need it.”
