Air accident investigators are travelling to the scene of an accident in which a microlight crashed.

Representatives from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch are expected to arrive later this evening and will work overnight in a bid to understand why the aircraft came down.

It follows a crash in which the microlight crashed on to Parkhall Golf Course, near Weston Coyney.

The sole occupant of the aircraft, a man thought to be in his late 50s, remains in at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire with suspected life-threatening injuries

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 1.30pm that the craft had come down at Parkhall Golf Course.

A man was trapped in the microlight for a short period of time, before being airlifted to hospital with suspected life-threatening injuries.

The Civil Aviation Authority has been contacted.
