Jobs cut at Wedgwood
UP TO 100 Wedgwood office staff are believed to have been axed this morning.
Administrator Deloitte called in support workers at 9.30am to be told the news.
-

One Wedgwood employee, who did not want to be named, said after the meeting: "As of a few minutes ago I stopped being a Wedgwood employee.
"They have made about 100 support workers redundant.
"We will be paid until the end of the day and then we have to apply for redundancy payments.
"The administrator told us there just wasn't the money to carry on paying us.
"There are people who have gone who have been working there for 18, 20 or 25 years."
About 600 production could learn more about their futures at meetings with the administrators this afternoon.
Wedgwood fell into administration last week after lenders refused to give the debt-ridden company more time to find extra funding.

“I am so saddened by the news and announcement today - my heart is with all those who have lost their jobs. I too was made redundant in the 1st 'cull' this morning. With working for the company less then 2 years I am not entitled to Statutory Redundancy - only the last 2 weeks - which Deloitte say they will pay sometime around the 14th January!!! With a family and huge mortgage to pay... also husband Self Employed -- I may loose my home!!! I am so worried that I have put my family's finances in jeopardy!!!!!”

“Having been given my marching orders this morning I feel it only prudent to comment on the sudden sex change that our CEO has undergone. The last time I left work our CEO was Moira Gavin and yet the papers keep quoting David Sculley.....WHO? Have the administrators booted this New York female out of the Shaftesbury Avenue apartment we allegedly bought for her to assist in paying our creditors? No? Not yet eh? How many CEO's do we have? Or is this another method of the Execs staying rich at the expense of the workers by having so many intellectually challenged overpaid greedy so and so¿s (the Upper Management) who kept their enormous bonuses last year even after declaring those massive losses¿¿
It¿s so nice to see them sitting hand in hand with Deloitte (still on their fat cat pay) casually ruining hundreds of lives in something I can only say has been planned for a long time. They did everything they could did they to stop the company from failing? A 2 year old could have done better. At least a 2 year old would have listened to the experts they drafted in to assist on business management instead of running full tilt into economic suicide as they were so prone to do. I hope you are all ashamed of yourselves as much as I am disgusted with you.
I hope the Asian firm whips KPS (the vulture fund) as they know this brand is best kept here not only for the craftsmanship but for the heritage too.”

“Don't forget the local businesses who are owed hundreds of millions of pounds by Wedgwood. Expect the aftershock to continue in the months ahead.”
