Headteacher's anger after school fails inspection
THE headteacher of a flagship school placed in 'special measures' by Ofsted tonight spoke of her anger - but vowed to move forward.
Barbara Hall's comments came after the education watchdog confirmed Sandon Business and Enterprise College, in Meir, had failed an inspection.

The school – the first to be completely rebuilt through Stoke-on-Trent's £250 million secondary reorganisation programme – was put in 'special measures' after concerns about students' attainment and GCSE progress.
Long-serving headteacher Ms Hall said: "We were angry, very angry, at the judgement. I was very upset for my students, in particular.
"But we've got to move on. The most important thing is to make sure that whatever has been brought to our attention is tackled."
The school had contested Ofsted's judgment before the report was published.
Sandon is the first school in England to fail an inspection after being rebuilt through the Government's Building Schools for the Future programme.

“As the parent of one child who left sandon a couple of years ago, one child still there and one about to go, clearly I have a vested interest in the standard of education being delivered by this school.
Mine and my children's experience of Sandon is that the standard of teaching is generally very good and we have found the dedication of the teaching staff to be beyond reproach.
The Ofsted report clearly points the finger at the Leadership and Management of the school. Therefore, I am more than a little concerned by the Head's response ' angry, very angry' and by the tone of the covering letter from the Chair of Governors, both of which suggest a certain degree of being in denial.
No-one likes being criticised, but it's what you do next that counts. The first step towards correcting something is to accept that it needs correcting. So come on Miss Hall, Mr Boon et al, accept the judgement and take responsibility for it. With the support of the excellent teaching staff and that of the local community I'm sure you can turn this around.”

“This proves that you can't improve education by handing power to leftist do-gooders who like nothing better than to spend tax payers money on monuments to themselves.
The cost of this school will be a millstone around the taxpayers neck for decades to come as it has been built with borrowed money.
Never mind. As long as Labour have a picture of a new school to put in their election brochures.”

“Jason, my daughter left Longton this year, and enjoyed her 5 years at the school. She like your daughter had to put the work in, to complete coursework and many hours revision for her GCSE's. Students do have to take some responsibility you know. She also had help and plenty of support from the staff at the school.
I also know friends who have kids at Sandon, and they speak hightly of the Head and staff. It is unfortunate that the school should find itself in the situation it is now, but I am sure they will bounce back, and will be back on track in the not too distant future. Other schools have been there, and it is not a nice feeling.”

“Sandon is, and always will be an excellent school. Paper inspections are all well and good, but I prefer to see actual results. My 15 year old son has been taking early entry GCSE's for TWO years at the school, and passing them, so they must be doing something right.
As a parent of a child almost ready to leave, and a child almost ready to start next year I am 100% behind Miss Hall and all the staff at the school.”

“Jason. You play one school off against another, then have the nerve to say " Instead of people blaming whoever for the school's downfall " to get behined it. With regards to the Head teacher's comments, she has accepted there are failings. Quote- " The most important thing is to make sure that whatever has been brought to our attention is tackled " At least she is not going to bury her head in the sand. BUT you may be digging a very big hole for yourself with comments like " Angry " " Very Angry " with the judgement.”

“My eldest daughter attended Longton HIgh School and it was only through her own initiative and hard work that brought her some good exam results, the school gave hardly any support and encouragement.
My other daughters attend Sandon High and the attitude of the teachers and willingness to help when problems arise are excellent. Thats why I have no doubt that Miss Hall can turn the school around and I hope that pupils parents support the school with this challenge.
Instead of people blaming whoever for the schools downfall, let's get behind the school's staff and governors to prove to ofted that Sandon is and will always be a Beacon school.”
