Confusion as MFI at Basford shuts up shop
THERE was confusion today as the Basford branch of troubled furniture giant MFI closed its doors.
After hearing the national chain had gone into administration, a steady stream of customers descended on the store, worried about goods which they had paid for but not received.

But they were met with a sign telling them the shop would be closed until further notice and advising them to contact administrators MCR.
MFI employees, who had been told to stop trading following a national conference call this morning, also gathered outside the store and spoke of their concerns for their future.
It is believed 26 branches out of more than 1,000 were closed by the administrators today.

“I agree Matt, However, I do wonder why so many of these companies are going under.. how for instance can Woolworths rack up £300m worth of debt? where they giving their stock away free or something? where they employeeing the mentally challenged on their boards? or kids spending all the profits? I don't understand.....
Now with PC world, Comet and the like also facing the same problem, I wonder how they managed to get into such a mess when they are hardly selling the stuff for free... in fact MFI went from being one of the cheapest DIY furniture stores, to one of the most expensive. These companies must of known how dire it all was... MFI for instances advised they could carry on trading if they had a rent holiday... no one did anything..
Each year, the government knows how much debt these companies have... why have we left it till midnight to find out they can't cope?
PC world is one of the only companies in the UK selling computer equipment at competative prices.. with all these main companies going over.. along with corner shops.. seems the only shops we are going to have in the UK by next year is ASDA and Morrisons..
What a sad world that would be... My thoughts are with those who have lost their money on orders.. and those who have lost their jobs before Christmas.”

“I can't imagine the worry and stress both customers and staff are going through right now.
Being laid off, or losing out isn't great at any time of the year, but with Christmas fast approaching, the people affected are really going to suffer.
I hope something can be pulled out of the fire for everyone concerned.”
