THE Potteries and District county team produced one of their best team performances for a long time to beat Derbyshire and keep alive their hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the county championship.

Skipper Kerry Morris led the way for the home side. He beat Dale Spragg in the opening rubber at Fegg Hayes to inspire his side to a 77-point home victory. That was followed up by the Potteries' away side winning by 12 points at Ashbourne to seal a resounding triumph.

STAFFS Ladies remain top of their County Championship qualifying group after three games following a 14-point victory over North Shropshire.

A solid performance from the Staffs away side was key to victory after the home team racked-up a 21-point win at Florence.

THE North Staffs Parks individual merit final takes place tomorrow at Oakhill Bowling Club with 16 rivals vying for the £200 first prize (noon start).

The top four finishers will also qualify for the British Parks Individual Merit, which will be held in August.

CONGLETON'S Chris MacDonald was a beaten semi-finalist in the Heckmondwike Classic. He lost 21-8 to eventual winner Pete Jagger.

LONDON Road bowler Alan Boulton won the JJ Isherwood Championship, the Shropshire qualifier for the National Vets Open.

The national finals will be played at Prees, near Whitchurch, on July 1.

In the same week, Boulton also won the John Barber Cup, the seniors championship of the Market Drayton League.

ENTRIES are now being taken for the London Road summer open pairs competition.

Qualifying heats are being held on August 21, 25, 26, and 28, while the final takes place on September 1. Entry costs £10 per pair.
