A BOGUS official has stolen money from a pensioner.

At around 2.45pm on Tuesday, a woman in her 80s, who lives in Marston Road in Stafford, was approached by a man who said he needed to check her water.

The man was let into the home and left unattended by the pensioner. She thinks either the man or an accomplice stole money from the property.

The woman was shaken but unhurt by the incident.

The man is described as white, between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 7ins tall, of slim build and in his 30s. He had a thin, clean-shaven face and short dark hair. He was wearing a white shirt and beige trousers and spoke with an Irish accent.

Detective Inspector Dan Ison, of Chase division, said: "Anyone receiving a knock at their front door should remember the Stop, Chain, Check system."

Witnesses should call Staffordshire Police 0300 123 4455.
