PEDAL OF HONOUR: Michelin worker Steve Hall, pictured, is hoping pedal power will raise around £2,000 in memory of his wife.

Some 50 fund-raisers are preparing to take part in a 10-mile charity bike ride around Longport's Westport Lake on Saturday, March 20, to raise money for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice.

Father-of-one Steve organised the event after his wife Joanne, pictured inset, a teacher at Hassell Primary School, in Newcastle, died from breast cancer in September.

Steve, aged 34, from Kidsgrove, said: "Having seen first hand what cancer can do to people, I decided I wanted to give something back to the people who helped Joanne in the later stages of her life.

"The hospice staff were brilliant and are angels in my eyes."
