SAFETY DRIVE: Firefighters have joined forces with the NHS to protect families from the risks of smoking.
NHS North Staffordshire and Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service are hoping to reduce the number of accidental fires in the home caused by smoking.

There have been 33 fires caused by smoking or smoking materials in Newcastle over the past five years. The partners will be working to identify those most at risk. Banners will be displayed at all eight fire stations in Newcastle and the Staffordshire Moorlands to launch the initiative on National No Smoking Day on March 10.
Stop smoking advisers have received training which will allow them to refer clients for free Home Fire Risk Checks.
To book a Home Fire Risk Check call 0800 0241 999. For details about stopping smoking call NHS North Staffordshire's Stop Smoking Service on 08456 003 003.
