T HIS beautiful Aston Martin DB6 was one of the stars at a recent sale which highlighted the strength of the classic car market with strong bidding for all the lots.

A 1967 car which had once been stripped down and its parts stored in 14 tea chests, the car has been restored and has a refurbished engine upgraded to 4.2 litres and has had a new coat of California Sage Green paintwork. With just 700 miles covered since the completion of the renovation this Aston went for £164,640.

For many, the star lot was a left-hand drive 1948 Jaguar MKIV Drophead Coupe equipped with the desirable 3.5-litre engine. Stunningly presented in Black Cherry complemented by a Tan interior it had been the subject of a body-off restoration in the 1990s at a total cost of some £130,000. An American concours award winner every year from 1991 to 1997, it sold for £80,640.

Other lots that performed beyond expectation included a rare 'barn find' Riley RMC 2.5 Litre that made £16,240 and a delightful 1928 Austin Seven 'Chummy'-style pick-up that changed hands for £13,440 at the H&H sale.
