Beautiful bungalow offers spectacular views
H OME to retired sales director, Norris Brookes, and his wife, Anne, for the past ten years this magnificent bungalow reflects a lot of hard work and effort that the couple has put in to turn an interesting property into an amazing one.
Their home at Ingleborough Place, Light Oaks, is one of 13 properties built into what was once a quarry and it takes its place in what is effectively a nice little community.
A lot of work and modernisation has been done – and to an extraordinary high standard – so that a lot of the interior feels as if it is brand new.
Norris says: "The house was built in the 1980s and we came here 10 years ago. We had never lived in a bungalow before but the location, and the views in particular, as well as the potential to extend and improve it tempted us and we have loved living here. Light Oaks is a nice place to be, with a definite country feel but handy for the city and the Moorlands, the house is peaceful and warm, the view is spectacular but most of all it is a very comfortable and easy property to live in.''

The porch and entrance hall leads to a large and comfortable lounge where a modern electric fire keeps you warm and a large bay window provides the daylight and the view before a few steps take you up to the slightly higher level where you find the dining room. With two sets of French doors, one leading to the side and the other the conservatory you will appreciate that this is very light and airy.
The kitchen is on the same level and has a high end feel to it with a lot of built in appliances.
Both the dining room and kitchen have doors to the lovely conservatory the couple added and apart from anything else it gives the house a lovely flow. The conservatory nestles at the foot of the garden which slopes gently up and Norris says: "A lot of the stone used in the retaining walls in the garden was dug out from what it now the conservatory when we built it.'' Most conservatories add character and extra living space to a house but this one seems to work really well.
Moving into the sleeping area, another part of the bungalow that they have extended, I had to remark on how light the corridor leading to the bedrooms and bathrooms seems and Norris says: "We put a sun tube in the ceiling and the effect it has is amazing. Even in the winter it lights up the corridor.''
The family bathroom has Kardean laminate flooring and looks as if it was installed yesterday.
I've said before that the standard of the workmanship is very high and this is just one of the rooms where this is so evident.
There are the four bedrooms and they have been designed to have one master room and another one as a guest room.
This has mirror fronted fitted wardrobes and an en suite shower/w.c. but the master suite is breathtaking.
Whoever Norris uses as his joiner is a genius because the fit of the light oak here is exceptional. There is a large dressing room with fitted wardrobes and dressing table and in both here and the en suite bathroom you will enjoy the under floor heating in the winter. The en suite itself is amazing, with a Jacuzzi-style bath operated by remote control plus a remotely controlled radio – "I can get in there and listen to the game when Stoke is playing'' says Norris – and a separate double shower cubicle.
Depending on your needs, one of the bedrooms could easily be used as an office and even the smallest ones are still of a good size.
The bungalow also has a separate utility room and a big double garage and then there is the garden. Because Light Oaks is in an elevated position Norris and Anne have very sensibly designed the low maintenance garden to capitalise on the views available and when I went to the higher of the two decked seating areas I could see why.
Norris says: "We can see over to Mow Cop from here and it's lovely to sit out on a summer's evening and watch the dusk coming and in the winter, when the leaves are off the trees you can see for miles.''
This is a modern, well thought out and beautifully finished bungalow in a very peaceful but convenient location but you really do need to view it to appreciate what it offers.
