Explosion in Longport causes major building damage

FIREFIGHTERS and building inspectors have been called to a property in Longport after a gas cylinder exploded.

The explosion, which happened at around 11.30am this morning on Longport Road, is believed to have blown the windows out of the building.

Although workmen were present at the time no one has been hurt, a Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said.

Fire crews were on standby at the scene for an hour after the initial blast and building inspectors are now said to be in the process of assessing the damage.
